Our ACF filter is the first line of defense in your SoftWaterCare system. It purifies your shower water by removing harmful chemical contaminants before softening begins.
Purifies dirty water to protect your hair, skin, and overall health
Extends the lifespan of the softener by preventing chemical damage to the resin
Provides cleaner water before the softening stage
Note: Hard water minerals are removed by the second part of the system — the water softener, not the filter.
Our ACF filter works effectively at temperatures below 122°F (50°C). Since typical shower temperatures range from 104°F to 109°F (40°C to 43°C), there's no need to worry about heat affecting performance.
Filter came well packaged and intact, I like that they wrap them so they stay clean. Easy to install into the soft water filters. I appreciate that you get a discount for buying more in bulk.

This is the 2nd replacement filter I have used. I have also charged the system around 30 times now and still going strong. As long as you run the pump in fresh water immediately afterwards, it lives (otherwise it fails and I've bought new pumps). Also, as others have mentioned, you need to run the water longer for it to warm up. I'm very happy with this system and recommend it for those who can't/don't want a full house system.

I absolutely LOVE my new system. It makes my hair so silky. You can see by the old shower hose I had extremely hard water that was making not only my hair fall out but also my sweet little Pom Gruff. I bought it primarily for my Pomeranian because our water was destroying his hair and skin and his hair was falling out. I am so thankful for your system my hair feels silky soft again and so does my little Gruffs hair. Thank you, thank you!!!💗

I Just replaced the filter and recharged the water softener. I was a little skeptical that it wouldn't work again after recharging it but I was very wrong! It is back to softening the water in my shower. It might even be better than when I first got the system. I ended up using water softener pellets (Diamon Crystal's Bright & Soft salt pellets) and its unbelievably soft. I highly recommend using this brand. Although the only downfall, if you can call it that, is that you have to let the pellets dissolve for a day or two. It took about two days for mine with occasional stirring every now and again. I followed the steps in the tutorials on the website and it worked really well. Although the AI voice in the tutorials is really silly and spells the word "off" rather than saying off. They should fix this and just have a real person speak. Either way, this system is a great purchase!

Great filter. No chlorine odor after installing this. Can tell a difference in the water quality before and after it was installed. Definitely recommend!

I bought another filter for this awesome soft water system. The website says that for one person, these filters should last about 9 months, but I wanted to get an extra one and replace it sooner. Just to ensure that the water softener stays nice and clean. I really like this product, and it makes showering 100x better!

These filters do a great job! The only downside is they don’t last nearly as long as advertised before the water pressure decreases dramatically. I’m having to replace them once a month - and that’s pushing it!

I really like this mini water softener system. It has made a huge difference in the quality of my showers. I went ahead and ordered another Antibacterial filter replacement. The initial system arrived within 10 days, but when ordering the replacement filter, it took quite a while. After 2 weeks of waiting, I emailed customer service and they said they were experiencing delays during the busy holiday season. Not too much to complain about and is pretty understandable. Either way, the replacement filter is finally here! I highly recommend this water softener system if you live in an apartment without soft water.

These filters work wonders!

I don’t have a good spot to install my softener and filter that I purchased from Soft Water Care after moving to a new place, but I found a way to use the filter alone and it still makes a difference in how my skin feels!

Using it now for 3 weeks, serving the needs of two people and also providing softened filtered water for all cooking for a family of 3. Shower unit easily hides behind the shower curtain, so it's never visible to anyone outside the shower. I have tasted water before, and after installing and the mineral hardness has been reduced from 600+ PPM to zero (per the test strips provided). Easy to notice softer skin, cleaner hair, and easy to lather and wash off soap. I just tested the water yesterday and the level of softness remains perfect. I have experience with commercial water systems, and this home addition is excellent for its durability, and simple method to add for someone who cant (as an apartment dweller, or as a home owner who doesnt want to add an expensive whole house system. The soft water really comes out of Berkey type drinking filters with zero minerals, which those units are not designed to remove. This system fills both our our needs softened water. The area I live is has all subsurface water fed from the N. Florida Aquifer and has a strong limestone mineral content. I am very pleased with this system and I give is very high recommendations for value, performance, design, and durability. No other simple filtered shower heads can with hard water what this system does day in and day out.

The system shower head is easy to use and well made. It is priced exceptionally well and it is designed better than almost any of the hand/wall combination heads that I have had in the past. This includes a recent purchase for a major brand unit that was 2.5 x the price that I installed in a family members shower a year ago. This shower head has just the right spray patterns and is easily changed over with the push of one button. No wheels to pivot. This shower head, operating on filtered soft water will not be subject to the decline in performance I have observed on the shower head I installed a year ago. The shower head I removed for this bathroom where this new system is installed, had the same appearance for deposit build up, occluding of nozzle holes etc. You will be amazed at the shower head that they sell that can be added for low cost. I recommend this after 3+ weeks using this shower head. I spoke to others in the fixture aisle at Costco, Home Depot, Lowes when I was shopping for a replacement head for a family member. They were all looking to replace hand held showers and almost everyone had a story about poor life of a previous portable shower head, without making a connection to the high mineral content of the water as the prime reason for pervious shower failure. I give this portable head very high marks, having own at least (4) different models over 2 decades (Kohler, Meon, Pfister, Shower Massage - Teledyne). You will pay $$$$$ for those brands and not get the functionality or design that this shower head has. That is the beauty of this supplier, They have done the work to package together what they have been able to do, by analysis and testing. They deserve success for the work they have done and the value they provide

The ACF does a great job filtering chlorine. I combined Softwatercare's softener and ACF with the Weddell Duo. My skin used to be severely itchy, but with this setup, it's been feeling great.
The ACF did stop working for me after 2 months. I suspect I wrecked it by running really hot water through it. So, don't be like me, haha!

What Is Activated Carbon Fiber (ACF)?
Activated Carbon Fiber (ACF) is a high-performance filtration material made by carbonizing and activating carbon-rich fibers. It features an exceptionally large surface area, nano-scale pores, and a unique porous structure that enables fast and efficient adsorption of contaminants.
Thanks to its narrow pore distribution and high adsorption capacity, ACF can quickly capture and remove a wide range of harmful substances. It is widely used in areas such as air and water purification, medical and pharmaceutical fields, military-grade filtration systems, and industrial applications like catalysis and chemical separation.
Targets and Removes Harmful Contaminants
This upgraded filter pairs ACF’s strong adsorption with silver’s antimicrobial power for better protection.
🔹 Silver ions help prevent bacteria, algae, and mold from growing inside the filter.
🔹 ACF’s nano-scale pores provide an enormous surface area to trap a wide range of harmful substances quickly and effectively.
Targets & Removes
Free chlorine and chloramine
Trihalomethanes (THMs)
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
Pesticides & herbicides
Pharmaceutical and hormone residues
Heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium)
Odors & tastes
Inhibits growth of bacteria, algae, and mold
Longer Lifespan, Deeper Filtration
Our ACF filter is larger and more advanced than typical shower filters, delivering deeper purification and lasting longer between replacements.
🔹 Suggested Replacement Schedule (Based on one person showering 10 minutes daily):
1 person: every 9 months
2 people: every 6 months
3+ people: every 3 months
🔹 Note: Actual replacement time may vary depending on your shower frequency, water quality, and contaminant levels.
For best results, use the included water test strips or check the filter visually—if it appears dirty, it’s time to replace it.
ACF Filter Replacement Guide
Replacing the ACF filter is simple. Follow the steps below to keep your system working at its best.
🔹 How to Replace the Filter:
Use the filter wrench included with your system to open the filter housing. Remove the old filter, place the new one inside, and screw the housing back on.
Important: Make sure the white O-ring inside the housing is not lost or out of place, or it may cause leaking.
After inserting the new filter, tighten the housing again with the filter wrench to prevent leaks, then reinstall the system.
Antibacterial ACF vs. Carbon Filters
At first glance, they may look similar — but inside, the difference is real.
ACF has a surface area of up to 1500 m²/g, much larger than the 900 m²/g of regular carbon. It can trap particles as small as 0.1 microns, compared to 1 micron with regular carbon filters.
That means faster, deeper, and more effective filtration.
🔹 What Standard Carbon Misses
✅ Typically removes:
Chlorine (partially)
Some unpleasant odors and tastes
❌ Often fails to remove:
Chloramine (a more stable form of chlorine)
VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)
THMs (Trihalomethanes)
Pesticides and herbicides
Hormonal and pharmaceutical residues
Heavy metals like lead, mercury, and cadmium
Bacteria, mold, or algae inside the filter
Why We Don’t Use KDF55
KDF55 filters are common in shower filters, but they mainly target chlorine and have limited effectiveness.
Limited Range: KDF55 is mostly effective for chlorine. It does little against VOCs, THMs, pesticides, hormone residues.
Shorter Lifespan: Most KDF55 filters lasts about 3 months. Our ACF filter delivers powerful purification for up to 9 months.
Outdated Technology: KDF55 was developed decades ago. It’s less efficient and less comprehensive than modern filtration methods.
Our Promise
ACF filters outperform standard activated carbon and outdated KDF55 filters in nearly every way—better purification, longer lifespan, and faster adsorption. So why aren’t they used in shower filters?
Because they reduce profit. ACF is more expensive to produce and lasts longer, meaning fewer replacements and less recurring revenue for companies. That’s why many brands stick with cheaper, outdated technologies like KDF55, even if they deliver weaker results.
At SoftWaterCare, we put your health first. That’s why we choose ACF, the most advanced filtration technology, to give you cleaner, safer showers—no matter the cost.
