A listing that says “fits 2-inch drains” might be describing the plumbing connection, the clear opening, a product family, or something else.

Dark staining does not automatically prove structural corrosion. As one jurisdiction-specific example, New York State’s 2020 shower-waste provision specifies a removable strainer and dimensional minimums for covered showers. Match requires all critical fields to agree:

Stop applies when installation would require bending tabs, drilling new holes into the drain assembly, cutting the frame, forcing an oversized part, leaving the cover unstable, or disturbing waterproofing. Those are signs that the replacement is not a cover-only match.
